Brief History

 

     The establishment was set up way back in 1970 by Mrs. Ammukutty Korah, wife of Late Mr. M.K. John.

 

     The year 1984 marks the entry of her successors whose ideologies have a built a niche for the organisation among the co-operative establishments.

 

     The organisation was converted into a partnership in 1975 and Mr. Mathew John was appointed the Managing Partner. The firm was to deal in milk and milk products like ghee, curd, sambharam.

 

     As a measure towards promoting interests of the local inhabitants, the scheme of setting up Society Units was launched in 1990.

 

     In 1990, Govardhini Traders was established as a proprietary concern of Mrs. Binu Korah, wife of Dr. Korah John Ph.D.

 

     In 1998, a private limited company in the name of Milgram  Milk Specialities Private Limited with modern ice cream manufacturing machineries was incorporated and Dr. Korah John Ph.D who has recently been awarded with Ph.D degree from university of Colombo in "Industrial Relations" was appointed the Managing Director.

 

     A trust under the name Milgram Farm Care Trust was established in 1995.

 

    A veterinary centre was set up in 1996 with the employment of 2 full-time qualified veterinarians.

 

     St. Mary’s Farm was registered with the Industries Department as a Small Scale Industrial Undertaking.

 

     Year 2000, a Pasturisation plant was set up in St. Mary’s Farm with an installed capacity of 10,000 Litres per day.

 

     In 2000, Gobar gas plant was set up to meet the power requirements at the plant.

 

     In the year 2003, significant changes took place in the mechanisation side with the up gradation of plant capacity to 50,000 litres per day, erection of Ammonia plant and other hi-tech machineries.

 

Directors

1. Dr. Korah John Ph.D, son of late Mr. M.K. John, is a graduate in commerce. He has undergone intensive training on scientific dairy farming at the National Dairy Research Institute, Bangalore. By virtue of his proficiency, he had been fortunate to represent India at the Royal Agricultural Society of the Common Wealth Meeting in England during 1997. He has nearly 21 years of experience in the field of dairy farming. The entire affairs of the farm are managed under his supervision and control. Since 1984, Mr. Korah John is the Managing Partner of St. Mary’s Farm and under his effective administration, several significant development programmes were initiated and achieved.
 
2.  Mr. Zacheriah John, son of late Mr. M.K. John, is an engineer by profession and is presently the Managing Director of Unitek Power Systems Private Limited.
 
3.  Mr. Mathew John, son of late Mr. M.K. John, is an experienced planter. He has also received specialised training at the National Dairy Research Institute, Bangalore in dairy farming and animal husbandry and had also undergone training in the Asian Rural Institute, Japan.
 
4.  Mrs. Ammukutty John, wife of Late Mr. M. K. John, is the founder of the dairy farm.
